Posted on: October 23, 2013

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention is offered at Brescia University on October 25, 2013 at 1pm-2:30pm in Room 210-Science Building. This training is free & open to any interested person. Please email [email protected] or [email protected] if you plan to attend so that we can have a certificate of completion ready for you. You may attend if not pre-registered! We will get your certificate to you next week. Our goal is for BU to be a “suicide aware” campus and to assist Owensboro community in having more QPR Gatekeepers. Note: Sr. Pam Mueller & Eva Atkinson plan to offer QPR training again on November 22, same time & place.

QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer, three steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide. Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. QPR is the most widely taught gatekeeper training in the world and more than 1,000,000 adults have been trained in classroom settings in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and other countries. The 90 minute curriculum teaches:
· How to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide
· The common causes of suicidal behavior
· The warning signs of suicide
· How to Question, Persuade and Refer someone who may be suicidal
· How to get help for someone in crisis
